SYDMOB #20 - 1

Today you are a Rock God.

Make your way to the ABC shop, second level, QVB building, Town Hall end.
By 3:02 you will be browsing among the displays and looking at the merchandise. Meander your way to the classic music section. You must be in the classic area by 3:03.

At  3:04 precisely, a Robert Plant look alike (A tall man with long blonde hair) will yell, "ONE TWO THREE FOUR" This is your key to give the best, silent  performance of your life. You may be an Air Guitarist, Air Base, Air Drums, Air keyboard, Air Vocalist, Air whatever takes your fancy.... Or you may be a dedicated headbanger, tossing your hair back and forth like something out of Wayne's world.

Interact with other band members, you are Hot HOT HOT! The crowd LOVES you! Put on a great show. Dance about, go wild!

After a performance of approximately two minutes, the Robert Plant look alike will throw his hands in the air and yell out "Thank you, Thank you Australia, and Good night!"  This is your cue to take a  bow, perhaps to blow Rock God type kisses, then casually disperse.

It is critical that you keep your wits about you during this performance, be sure not to knock anyone out or over! Take care not to hit any displays, and if you choose to headbang, brace your legs well, and bang from the hips, much easier on the neck the next day.

SYDMOB #20 - 2

Make your way to Pitt Street Mall.

By 3:27pm you will be loitering around the Market Street End of Pitt Street Mall.

At 3:30pm, The Mob reps will appear. (The Robert Plant look alike, and the rep who handed you these instructions). They will pause for a few moments, to give you time to get near by, then they will begin to wander down the mall.

Follow them loosely, do not form a line. At some stage, the mob reps will fall to the ground in "Insect Death" legs and arms flailing about in the air, shaking and shuddering like a cockroach that has had a blast of insect spray. Do the same. Again, comedy is our aim, so enjoy yourself.

Rock On Australia?
You bet!

Funny the way the world turns. Most of today's instructions were handed out as the bells of St Andrews pealed away in a clamorous manner...Ah, The Irony.
Who knows what the patrons and staff of the cultured and sedate ABC shop made of today's events? When Robert Plant and accomplices entered the store, the classic music section was jam packed full of innocent looking characters perusing the merchandise. On the count of ONE TWO THREE FOUR! We all started banging away to internal music. Some serious rockers amongst us. The small child who asked "What are the DOING, Mummy?" gave us a giggle. Several people were noted giving it their all, we saw a lot of Air guitarists among the Air Band, and some people who could obviously make a go of air performances as a profession. Kudos to the Air trumpeter, we had not considered a horn section, well done. Applause all round.  We know it was a tough call, as this event did ask for a degree of exhibitionism. Great to see so many of you unleash the rock beast within. I laughed out loud, as on exit, one mobber called out "We love ya! We love you all!" We laughed pretty much all the way out of the building. Great to see all the happy grins and the odd sly "Thumbs Up" from mobbers, on their way to the next site.

So, The ABC Shop was left to contemplate what had just occurred, and Mal and Tempest went in search of dry, clean ground to do ''Insect Death".  The Strand arcade provided the perfect site, so off we trotted to pick up the rest of the mobbers. I had to laugh when I looked over my shoulder as I entered the arcade, the great crowd following us (whilst trying not be conspicuous) was funny in itself.

When we reached the middle of the Arcade, Mal sprayed the insecticide, which proved to be very powerful, as soon there was nothing but a sea of twitching arms and legs intermixed with startled people sipping on their coffee and passers-by with mouths agape. The look on one woman's face was priceless - A sort of a Ad Fab Patsy, who just could not comprehend what was going on in front of her.... Josh took a small video of this event, and it looks a riot. If he can figure out how to get it downloaded and over to us we will put it up on this site soon. We will send a notice when it goes up, as it is pretty funny.

So, the next mob on the weekend of 22nd August will mark the first anniversary of Sydmob. Yep, that's correct, it will have been twelve months since David set the spark alight, and a group of complete strangers barked and meowed at each other in front of Islay the talking terrier monument. So start telling your family and friends and lets make our 1st Birthday a big one (as every 1st Birthday should be...)

As always, if anyone has pics of this event, pretty pretty please send them over to us, so we can put them up here. And with the ABC shop looking like a press conference with all the camera flashes going off, we are sure you have some images to share...
